Star Blanket engagement present

North American Indigenous peoples’ brought the Star Blanket pattern to everyone.  The general meaning of the eight-pointed star means “honesty and generosity.”’ A Star Blanket is given to couples on either their engagements, marriage or at the birth of their first child, to students as they achieve their degrees or to signify a special achievement, and to Elders in recognition of their wisdom. It is believed when wrapped in Star Blanket, your ancestors are amongst you and with you.  

The Star Blanket shown here was an engagement gift to Azaria and Amrit! She gifted the quilt on Thetis Island in the summer of 2019.
